What is a cnc? CNC stands for computer numeric control, many things can be controlled using a computer.
The first numerical control machines were built in the 1940s and 1950s. The equipment was automated and ran by a program with commands on tape, electrical impulses or a computer system, rather than being manually controlled. This greatly increased the number of products that could be produced in a day. Over the years, these machines evolved into using both analog and digital computers and are now called computer numerical controlled NC Numeric Control.
What is a CNC router? This machine is used to cut wood, plastic or metal and is used for many things like guitars clocks signs and more. these machines can act as engravers, so you can get a lot of usage from one machine
3D printing machines are also available for a reasonable price, the rep-rap machine is a rapid prototype machine, it is open source and always being upgraded.
In Industry it is not efficient or profitable to make everyday products by hand. On a CNC machine it is possible to make hundreds or even thousands of the same item in a day with limited overview from a person.
Step one a design is drawn using design software, then it is processed by the computer and manufactured using the CNC machine. a small CNC machine and machine wood, plastic and aluminium. In industry, CNC machines can be extremely large.
Components:
The VICE: This holds the material to be cut or shaped. Material must be held securely otherwise the material being cut may leave the table when the CNC begins to machine.
The GUARD: The guard protects the person using the CNC. When the CNC is machining the material. The guard protects from chips flying and from the material if it leavs the vise.
The CHUCK: This holds the raw material. The material must be placed in the chuck with care so that when the CNC is working the material is not thrown out at high speed.
The CUTTING TOOL: This is usually made from high quality steel HSS (high speed steel) and it is the part that actually cuts the raw material.
Many people sell kits and parts for home units, you can find some machines for under $5000, and rep-rap 3d printing units for under $1000. these machines are self replicating.
