smooth velocity in stepper motors?
We have a problem using stepper motors. When we set the motors to run at constant speed (180-540 rpm) we get ripples on the velocity of up to 30%.
Can you recommend a way to overcome this? or a brand of specially smooth motor / drivers systems.
some more detials: the ripples have a period of 7.2 degrees. the motor is a 2 phase motor. The motor driver system is AS69AC of Oriental Motors

We work in full step. the driver microsteps to 10000 microsteps per revolution and we still get it.

Without seeing a schematic of the driver, it's had to say what you could do electronically to fix it, but obviously the motor is only very lightly loaded? Lowering the supply voltage might help, or adding some series resistance to the motor leads, or you could try a flywheel, start with one that is maybe about half the weight and twice the diameter of the motor.
[REPOST] Re other answer, I don't think adding drag will help, I would think that that would simply reduce the "DC" value of the speed without affecting the "AC" much. I think the flywheel will give the best results, but try the series resistance first. The datasheet quotes 220V, 3.9A, but that of course is at full load, and I doubt if you're anywhere near that - but it does represent a starting point. I would start with resistors that would drop power by about 20%, and go from there. So 220V/3.9A/2windings =~ 28 ohms, 20% of which is about 5.6 ohms, and from P=I^2R, they each must be able to handle about 25 watts. If this improves the situation without screwing up operation at high speed, but you still feel you need to get it better, add a 2.2 ohm 10W to each winding and check again, repeat if necessary. If it does not improve the situation and adversely affects your full load operation, forget it and go for the flywheel.
But of course you already tried messing with the motor running current limit and the velocity filter adjustments described on page B-57 of
