Regardless of design, maintenance, and brand, every mechanical apparatus will break down. When that happens, you have a decision to make: should you buy a new motor or fix the old one?
That decision is less of a pro/con equation and more of a list of items to consider. There are some obvious things to look at; such as:
Is the original stator and rotor in serviceable or reasonably repairable condition?
Cost - If the repair costs more than 60 or 70% of a new motor, it makes sense to buy a new one.
If you have a motor in service now and its efficiency is low, you should buy a new one because of possible rebate and quick lead times.
Lead time. On occasion the lead time and available of the replacement motor may prompt to make the decision to repair instead of buy.
