Common Information About Circuit Breaker  by Richard Kenny
For every household, circuit breaker is vital for the safety and protection but unfortunately most homeowners take for granted about it. Regularly, this device only gets notice when it is tripped and electricity is cut off to the house.
It is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Its basic function is to detect a fault condition and, by interrupting continuity, to immediately discontinue electrical flow.
Function of circuit breaker
It tests out the wiring and shuts down power when risky temperatures are observed. Generally, the large handle on the front of the box is linked to the power of the whole house. The circuit that has been influenced will point out by the circuit box and usually with a red mark correspondent to the switch of the circuit that has been tripped. With most circuit breakers, moving the switch to the "off" position, then to the "on" position will reset the breaker. Owners should be cautious to find out what caused the circuit before starting again the trip and take steps such as unplugging a device that could have caused the overload. The circuit breaker is planned as a defense and will move forward unless the cause is determined.
Circuit breaker's pros and cons
It is a protective device that non-destructive switch to open when the current flow beyond a predetermined value. It is usually designed to trip relay / switch, which can be cleared and closed, when the fault is removed. On the other hand, fuse is a safety device that opens when the destructive power flow of a predetermined value. It is often seen as a low resistance value which heats and melts defined by the current. The fuse must be replaced when it blows.
For diverse preset values as a function of time in both cases, the design provides. It may depends on whether the proposed load pulls a larger startup current than when it runs, such as a motor, which can easily pull four times their run current when they startup. The defensive device is chosen for the precise type of load, and for the rating of the conductors supplying it.
From a usual fuse, it may be designed to move much faster, however they are normally larger in size and cost more to repair. It gives the same defense against over current. But the circuit breakers are recyclable and can easily be reset after being triggered - assuming, of course, that the error condition in the protected circuit has been repaired.
These two defense devices are important but among the two the circuit breaker has more functions.
